Functionality & Benchmarking
The Backup Plus Slim is not just a good looking drive with the 2.5-inch SATA HDD inside providing decent speeds while staying necessarily silent. That well excels the 100-110-MB/s we usually find with 5400-rpm drives. In headline sequential speed tests of the near-empty disk, it could read and write at more than 142-MB/s, which is faster than the impressive Transcend StoreJet 25-M-3.
Sequential read and write speeds of just over 30MB/s are significantly slower. Those tests were all using USB 3.0 and when you look and how much the speeds drop if you switch to USB 2.0, you will know why you will want this drive plugged into a blue port.
Software & Characteristics
You can select what content you want to backup using the app containing media, contacts, call logs and messages. For initiators, a great out of the box specialty of the Backup Plus Slim is that it is compatible with both PC and Mac. You can just plug it in and away you go since the NTFS driver for Mac is pre-loaded on drive.
You can also backup content from your mobile device to the drive provided you use the available Seagate Backup app for iOS or Android. Once you have sanctioned access, it just works by putting everything in a folder on the drive called ‘My Online Documents.’
Assessment
The Seagate Backup Plus Slim is a well rounded portable HDD which offers good value for money, design and speed.
