Dashboards In Salesforce

Important before starting to create dashboards

After creating your reports, creating dashboards in Salesforce is an easy job. The important thing you need to do before is to make sure that you have created the right type of report. Tabular reports will not work with the majority of the components. Most of the time when you create reports for working in dashboards, you probably will work on summary reports since you are going to summarize values and display the values in charts like bar, pie, pipeline chart etc.

Steps for creating dashboards in Salesforce

  • In order to start off, go to the reports tab and hit ‘New Dashboard’ which is directly next to ‘New Report’. If you are not able to find out this button, you might not have the right permissions and in this regard you need to contact the System administrator.
  • Next you will find the layout design manager for the dashboard you are going to create. Different components to add to your dashboard are on the left hand side. The components starting from the top left side are bar charts, pie chart, line graph, doughnut chart and more.
  • After you have selected the chosen component, you can simply use drag and drop to the column you choose. This forms the first step. The next step is to populate the chart with the data. The tab next to the components section is the tan for data sources. It is the best strategy to create a new folder for containing everything if you are building a big dashboard. After finding the selected report you just drag and drop into your component and the process is almost done.
  • The last step you need to do for creating dashboards in Salesforce is to simply customize the dashboard as you like. When you click on the small spanner in the component you will be directed to a page consisting of two tabs. The component data and formatting can be changed here and also the type of graph.

Thus creating dashboards in Salesforce is an easy task and you can do it easily after practicing it sometimes. Dashboards are helpful in viewing your reports in a customized manner and therefore knowing how to create dashboards is a required task.
